  • PBS Home Video company is established for home video distribution of PBS television series and films on newly introduced VHS format tapes.

August[]

  • August 23 – VHS is introduced in the United States.[1]

November[]

  • November – Magnetic Video company licenses 50 films from 20th Century Fox to be released on home video in VHS and Betamax formats, the first such agreement.
